Wine and Olive Oil
Posted in Food and DrinkWine. For many people it is slightly magical. It has the ability to make a bad day into a good one. Instead of complaining to your wife while you lay your head on your pillow at night, you remember the great wine you had with dinner. Of course, wine can make dinner all that much better as well, which is one of its best qualities. Of course, wine also simply tastes good which is why we care so much!
Over the past few years there has been a cottage industry spring up, products which pair well with wine. One product and food type which we think could be the next big pairing is: olive oil.
Much like wine which achieves it best state by being produced by wineries which are more interested in quality than quantity (small producers produce better wine) olive oil has one huge aspect that no one ever thinks of: freshness.
Fresh olive oil tastes so much better than the store bought stuff we all grew up with that it is hard, or impossible to even compare the two of them. The challenge is, of course, where do you find fresh olive oil year around? Like many things, you’ll have to import the olive oil for part of the year. In this case it is incredibly important to find a local store which can help you source the type of quality product which you’re looking for. An interesting thing about fresh olive oil is that it is much, much more healthy for you than the store bought olive oil we are all accustomed to! Personally, if I am giving olive oil to my son to help him get some good fat in his diet (he’s 1 year old!) then I want the best, not something which might have gone bad on the store shelf!
